An integral part of the IPDMC
The Doctoral Workshop is an important and integral part of the IPDMC conference. In 2027 it starts on Tuesday 8 June at 9 am and continues through Wednesday 9 June, ending with lunch. There may be some unofficial afternoon activities among the participants after the official ending.
To stimulate academic scholarship, discussions of ideas and dialogue among students and researchers from different countries in the field of innovation and product development management research, we invite doctoral students from these domains worldwide to attend this doctoral workshop. PhD students in the early and middle stages of their PhD research project are particularly encouraged to participate and present their research proposals, preliminary results and their reflections on issues related to theory, methods and analysis.
For students whose PhD dissertation is not planned as a monograph but as a series of articles on a common theme, the candidate can present either an overview of the compilation or a part of their work. In addition, DBA researchers are very welcome, and the extra challenges of their type of research may be discussed.
The workshop is very interactive, and it gives small groups of students, typically three, several hours of intensive discussion about their research with a senior faculty member. Plenary sessions focus on general topics of interest to doctoral students, such as methodological options, publishing research results, the doctoral journey, and next steps in the academic or industry career.

Students are asked to prepare fully for the Doctoral Workshop, including a comprehensive description of their research of 10 to 20 pages, as a PDF. The description should include:
- introduction, including research positioning, motivation, objectives and research questions;
- theoretical background and literature review;
- methodology;
- research results;
- discussion, implications and further research.
Depending on how far your thesis has come, you might want to focus more or less on certain parts. In particular, where it applies, we recommend that you present the empirical analyses and results.

Only submissions in the domain of innovation and product development management are accepted. A submission may be rejected if it is not sufficiently mature, or if the chairs see that the student would not benefit from taking part.
Registering and preparing
Students are given feedback on their submission. Invited students confirm their participation and register for the workshop by early April 2027.
Online meetings are organized in April and May, so that students and faculty get to know each other before the workshop. Students may submit an updated version of their research description by early May. Before the workshop, students read the other students’ research descriptions and prepare questions on their work.
There is a fee of €100 for taking part in the Doctoral Workshop, and registration and attendance at the IPDMC conference are compulsory.
The two days
The number of participants is limited to 28 doctoral students, and the workshop is held on site in Paris.
On successful completion, which means full attendance, participants receive a certificate and are granted 2 ECTS.
The conference opens in the same building on the evening of Wednesday 9 June, followed by the welcome reception. Workshop participants are warmly invited to stay for both.
