34th Innovation and Product Development Management Conference · Paris, 9–11 June 2027
For more than three decades, the Innovation and Product Development Management Conference (IPDMC) has brought together an international community of researchers interested in innovation and product development management.
IPDMC provides a forum for presenting and developing research across different disciplines, theoretical perspectives, methods, and stages of development. The conference combines academic rigor with a collegial and developmental environment, with substantial time devoted to discussion, feedback, and exchange among participants.
The 34th IPDMC will take place in Paris on 9–11 June 2027, hosted jointly by Mines Paris – PSL and Université Paris Dauphine – PSL.
Researchers at all career stages are invited to submit their work. IPDMC particularly welcomes contributions that stimulate discussion, open new research directions, connect different research communities, or can benefit from constructive feedback during their development.

Innovation for Transitions: Regenerating Organizations and Society
Contemporary societies face technological, ecological, economic, and social challenges that create disruption and uncertainty for the development, adoption, and diffusion of products, services, and systems. For innovation and product development management, the challenge is not only to adapt to these transitions, but also to understand how organizations can initiate, orient, and shape them toward more desirable, equitable, and sustainable futures.
This perspective broadens the role of innovation in organizational transformation. It calls for renewed capabilities, more open and inclusive innovation processes, and greater involvement of actors such as employees, users, consumers, and citizens. It also raises questions about how innovations are perceived, adopted, and used, how they propagate across organizational, market, and ecosystem boundaries, and how their wider societal consequences can be anticipated and governed.
IPDMC 2027 therefore invites research on how innovation and product development management can contribute to regenerating organizations and society. Relevant topics include creative capabilities, organizational and institutional transformation, business model innovation, responsible and inclusive innovation, market formation and transformation, ecosystem change, and the scaling and diffusion of innovation.
The theme can be addressed through different theoretical, methodological, empirical, and disciplinary perspectives. Contributions may examine established phenomena in new contexts, question existing assumptions, introduce emerging phenomena, or develop new theoretical and methodological approaches.
The conference theme provides a focus for IPDMC 2027 but does not restrict submissions.
We welcome high-quality research across the full range of topics related to innovation and product development management.

Two paper formats
IPDMC recognizes that valuable research can be at different stages of development. Authors can therefore participate through two paper formats.
The paper category selected when submitting the extended abstract is not binding. Authors may change between the Full Paper and Research Design Paper formats when submitting the final conference paper.
UP TO 10,000 WORDS
Full Paper
The Full Paper format is intended for substantially developed research projects.
Following acceptance of the extended abstract, authors choosing this format will submit a paper of up to 10,000 words, excluding tables, figures, and references.
Full Papers should normally present a clearly articulated research question, engagement with relevant literature, an appropriate research design, analysis or theoretical development, and a contribution to innovation and product development management research.
UP TO 2,000 WORDS
Research Design Paper
The Research Design Paper format is intended for promising research that is still under development.
Following acceptance of the extended abstract, authors choosing this format will submit a paper of up to 2,000 words, excluding tables, figures, and references.
Research Design Papers may focus particularly on issues such as:
- development of the research question;
- theoretical positioning;
- conceptual development;
- research design and methodology;
- empirical strategy;
- interpretation of preliminary findings; or
- development of the paper’s intended contribution.
This format is intended to allow authors to receive feedback while important research decisions can still be influenced by discussion at the conference.
Extended abstract
Acceptance to IPDMC 2027 will be based on the evaluation of an extended abstract of approximately 500 words.
The extended abstract should allow reviewers to understand the research project and its potential contribution. Depending on the stage and type of research, authors should address as appropriate:
- the research problem, objective, or question;
- the theoretical background and relationship to existing literature;
- the research design and methodology;
- the empirical setting or data, where relevant;
- findings or preliminary findings; and
- the expected theoretical and managerial contribution.

Submissions should be made through the IPDMC 2027 Oxford Abstracts platform.
Evaluation criteria
Extended abstracts will be evaluated on the basis of:
- relevance to innovation and product development management;
- clarity of the research question or objective;
- engagement with relevant theory and research;
- appropriateness of the research approach;
- originality and potential contribution; and
- potential to benefit from discussion at IPDMC.
In keeping with the developmental character of IPDMC, the selection process will consider the potential of the work as well as its current stage of completion.
Notification of decisions: 15 January 2027
Authors of accepted abstracts will subsequently be invited to submit either a Full Paper or a Research Design Paper.
Final paper submission deadline: 19 April 2027
At the conference
Presentation and discussion
IPDMC is designed around active scholarly exchange rather than presentation alone.
Accepted papers will be allocated substantial time for presentation, discussion, and feedback. Participants are therefore expected not only to present their own research but also to engage actively with the work of other participants.
Different session formats may be used across the conference, including conventional paper sessions, developmental discussions, roundtables, and other interactive formats.

8–9 June 2027
IPDMC Doctoral Workshop
The IPDMC Doctoral Workshop is an integral part of the IPDMC community and will take place in Paris on 8–9 June 2027, immediately before the main conference.
The workshop brings together doctoral students and experienced researchers from different countries to discuss research in innovation and product development management.
Doctoral students in the early and middle stages of their PhD projects are particularly encouraged to apply. Participants may present research ideas, proposals, research designs, preliminary findings, and questions concerning theory, methodology, and analysis.
Doctoral Workshop submission deadline: 15 January 2027
A separate Call for Applications will provide details of the submission requirements and workshop format.
Awards
Two awards go to the best papers presented at the conference: one for the best research paper overall and one for the best paper by a PhD or student researcher, each with a runner-up.

Honors the overall best research paper presented at the conference. -
Thomas P. Hustad Best Student Paper Award
Recognizes the best paper authored and presented by a PhD or student researcher. -
Best Paper Award Runner-Up / Student Runner-Up
Acknowledges highly commended submissions close to winning the top prizes.
